Great web site Brannon,
Particularly the collection of HGS photos, but I am thrilled to see my 'rellies' on there courtesy of my Aunt, Pauline Goodman.
My Gran (Katherine Goodman) lived until the ripe old age of 3 days short of her 101st birthday, wonderfully cared for by my aunt..
My Great Gran Nichols lived in Barton Cottages in Almeys Lane where I spent the very early days of my life during the war after I was born.
I have been domiciled in New Zealand since emigrating here in 1971 but still remember the old place with a certain amount of nostalgia.
I married a BIGNELL girl here, but checking your photos of the BIGNELL FAMILY I can't see any links although her parents were English..

Best Regards,

Ian Scott, Hawkes Bay, New Zealand.

Hello,
The birth of my son a few years ago ignited my interest in researching my family geneology.
I feel that I have reliable data making my son a 21st generation decendant of John Cope of
Denshanger Co (1355-1417).

I ran across your web site as I was researching the Cope Family Motto.

Just wanted to say hello from Arkansas, USA to a fellow member of the Cope family.

Sorry I cannot offer much to your genealogy
I was at HGS 44-49, and another pupil John Muston now in Spain told me about the photo of the pupils 1948 because he knew I was looking to send some information to another old boy Mick Morris now in Florida

I live in France and I will send details of the photo to Florida

Pupils I recognise on the photo, Barry Faulkes; Orton, Mick Moss, Smedley, Underhill, Adey, N Groves John Muston, Roger Jarvis and a few more. Most of the teachers incl "Killer" Gilchrist and Docker;

Peter Clarke - I'm a couple rows behind Mr Player.

I've just sent a brief note not adding anything to your genealogy however - before I switched off I discovered photo Senior School 1950 and saw myself top row first boy from the girls behind Terry Addison
I knew Ray Thomas - good at Maths, and Ray Orton - not well
I see on the photo again Faulkes, Colin Cheney now in Solihull, Roy Jennings decd, john Smedley also decd, David Paul decd, JOhn Muston, Mick Morris behind Mr Beresford next Yorke, Tony Sutton capt of Rugby, now Dunmore nr Rugby

Brought back memories

Your website was passed to me by Vilma Monks.
I was at HGS from 1942 to 1946, and have one of the Panorama films.1946 I believe. Ray Orton's name is familiar.
I am still in touch with Heather Fleming (now Coomb) and Joyce Simpson (now Garratt), Brenda Ashton (now Gibbes).
My brother Leslie Harris was there much later. He lives in Perth , Western Australia.
I came to Australia in 1957, first to Canberra, and then to Sydney in 1968.
I am a very keen family historian and active member of Botany Bay Family History society - see our web site.

What a marvellous site - I'm only sorry I can't actually match my ancestors to any of yours.   My Joseph Stringer, born 1812, married Harriet Cope in 1853 and their daughter, Harriet, married Alick Bott.

It was a pleasure browsing your site and I particularly liked the Dynamic Tree.

I am researching Cope family and looking for information on Samuel Cope of Rocester b. about 1771.
I enjoyed looking at your site and very informative it is indeed. I am only sorry I don't find my own line there - it would have been so much help.
Best wishes  Anne, Northants.

Well done, Dad your site is really thorough and easy to use. One tiny detail that does need amending though - Steven and I have been married for just over two years and the info you have still has us as a common law couple! (Married
27th March 2004 at Peel registry, Isle of Man.) Having moved to the Isle of Man in 2003, I don't get to visit Earl Shilton very often, but on this site I can 'see' more of my family than most people ever get the chance to! Thanks for creating such a wonderful record! Gaynor (Now Hewings, was Pearson, maiden name Cope)

Congratulations on your excellent web site.  Your information is so extensive, very well organized and easy to navigate. I came across this site when searching for information on the Woodward, Harrold and Kiddle families from the
Hinckley and Barwell areas.  Many thanks for your prompt reply to my inquiry.

I came across your web site last night while searching for information about framework knitting and the hosiery trade in Earl Shilton. Your family history was most interesting to read and there were some useful details about local history that I didn't know, such as the church only being used for marriages after 1854. I enjoyed the way you contextualised your family in local history, making it a fascinating account for the reader.

My maternal grandfather was born in Earl Shilton in 1896, one of the Toon family. They lived in Station Road, about which you provided a brief history (I also have a photo of him as a boy in the skating rink). My brother and I have both been working on the Toons and associated families, particularly the Lynes Pratts and we have now traced the Earl Shilton Toons back to the early eighteenth century. The Lynes Pratts are more intractable as there is inconsistent use of the surnames Lynes, Pratt and Lynes Pratt. If your research has touched on any of these family names, it would be interesting to know what you have discovered about them.

Thank you again for your informative web site,

Best wishes,

Rosemary Collins

Neat site revolving around COPE and NEEDHAM families. This site contains a family tree, nicely linked together and providing the basic information. Each ancestor page has links to further information, including wills. There are also links to descendants charts and much more. The structure makes for easy navigation, and the design is easy on the eye. A nice touch is an historical timeline showing events around that ancestor's lifetime.
